seems like my reputation precedes me. now people are saying that i'm obsessed. maybe i am, why not, it's a good thing to be obsessed about. and people are popping up asking me about the fonts and typefaces that i have featured in this blog and asking me where i got them. (alah, just here and here pun, bukan banyak. the others tu are my wishlist).
Well, true, i've downloaded some of them, mostly the free ones, but some, came with the computer i have in the office - meaning it's been bought or collected by the company or was given as part of client's CI (corporate identity). but anyway, since i'm such a in a giving mood because i dreamed of My Little Pony and Care Bears last night, i'm giving you the links to where you can get some of my favorite free fonts. knock yourselves out. (i think the fonts are compatible for both Mac and PC. if not, then i'm sorry)
1. Museo, Museo Sans & Museo Slab

2. Fertigo Pro

3. Mentone

4. District Thin

5. Anivers

6. Fontin Sans

A little backstory, coz you know, everything needs to revolve around me. that's how i roll :
i've always liked typography and typefaces since i was in school. only at that time, computers scared the shit out of me. (believe it or not, i did not have an email address until 2000 when my cousin set it up for me while i was Perth for 2 months). so during high school, i've always been attracted to creating custom handwriting and doodling in typography. and that, i thought, was what graphic design was all about. yes, i was stupid but not too far off. one of my favorite subjects during my graphic design studies was typography.
one of the projects that we had to do was to create our own typeface using whatever material we can find, and indian ink. and then we had to pick on a character and create a pattern out of that one letter. everything was done oldskool. by hand. no computers. fuck, we rule! and then we had to trace the frontpage of a newspaper and write the whole damn thing back using the typeface that we've created. it's one ugly ass front page for a newspaper, i must say. it took forever to get done but it's one of the many projects that i actually loved doing. i remember what my Arwah Grandmother said to my mom when she saw me all bent up in every yoga position when i was doing that project, she said "Lisha tu belajar apa sebenarnya? Menconteng-conteng je?" . She never really understood what i do.
although now i'm not directly involved in doing designs at work, i still keep a strong interest in type. i can even tell who's the designer based on his preferred use of fonts alone. yeah, maybe i'm a little obsessed. i'm all kinds of crazy and that's why you love me.
P/S : i'm tempted to give EVERY free font i love but you know what? maybe i should keep some for later. maybe i should do this on a weekly basis, and introduce Free Font Friday (yeah so what if i'm not the first blog to do this). what do you think about it?
